iPod

I picked up a new 30GB iPod yesterday....I'll be selling my old 15GB and a new 20GB I am getting for free from freeipods.com. E-mail me if you're interested..

Anyways, impressions..

So far it's great. Much easier on the eyes and nice album art to go along with the track info. Time to fill out my music library with album art since I have practically none. Also nice is the whole photo side of it. It's kind of neat to have all your photos at your fingertips; I think I'll take and show more photos now that I have it.

Sorry for the choppiness of all this...I had a horrible hangover today and am only just recovering. I'll be back tomorrow or later with more cohesive thoughts.

Netflix V. Blockbuster -- T.K.O.

::Ding Ding Ding::

After pummeling Blockbuster online in three separate categories --

- Shipping Time
- Processing Time
- Quality of service issues

-- Netflix has won by Technical Knock-Out.

So if you're in Pittsburgh and looking to choose one of these services, it appears Netflix is the way to go. With a distribution center in Pittsburgh itself, I expected as much.

Screwing Napster

If you're bored.... (of course, I'd never ever do this)

Lots of "free" songs and technically not piracy unless you share songs with others..

From marv on the record:

Practical how to:
(credit goes to warlock1711 of club.cdfreaks.com for discovering this loophole)

0. Download and install Napster, sign up for 14 day free trial.

1. Download and install
Winamp

2. Download and install the Winamp Plug-in
Output Stacker

3. Open Winamp Options->Plug-ins->Output->Dietmar's Output Stacker->Configure
a. Add out_ds.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder
b. Add out_disk.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder
c. Select out_disk.dll in the Output Stacker->Configure
d. Set the output directory and output file mode to Force WAV file
e. Exit preferences

4. Load downloaded Napster protected WMAs into your Winamp playlist

5. Press play and each file will be converted to WAV as it plays

6. Burn WAVs to CD with your favorite burning program

Theoretical fun:

Three computers, one fast networked drive, and a few dedicated people: Turning Napster's 14 day free trial into 252 full 80 minute CDs of free music.

Each song can only be burned after the duration of the track length has elapsed in realtime:

14 day trial = 336 hours = 20,160 minutes of potential music = 252 80 minute CDs

NetFlix V. Blockbuster -- Update #1

All three movies I requested from Netflix arrived today -- no sign of the movies from Blockbuster.

Netflix managed to get my movies to me *overnight.* I attribute this to the fact that Netflix supposedly has a distribution center in Pittsburgh. Still, I'm impressed.

The next test will be turn-around time when I send a movie back. If Netflix beats Blockbuster here too, it will be over. I'll pay $3 more a month for faster response times (even though I'd lose the 2 in-store game rentals from Blockbuster).

NetFlix Vs. Blockbuster Online

Since I like watching movies, but rarely have the cash to buy them, I decided to try this whole online rental thing. I've signed up for both NetFlix and Blockbuster Online, basically to see which will get things to me fastest. In terms of features, I'm more pumped about Blockbuster, so I hope they "win." It's $3 cheaper/month ($14.99) and you get two in-store rental coupons that you can use towards movies or games. This is key since neither service offer games, and being able to rent 2 games a month would be nice.

So...go Blockbuster! Though, from what I've read, NetFlix has a distribution center in Pittsburgh...Blockbuster's closest is Philly.

Resident Evil 4 (Fin)

I just beat RE4..

I just beat RE4..

::dance dance dance::

--

Ok...awesome game. I beat it and it unlocks a few more "levels" that flush out the story...it's really great. Not to mention you unlock new weapons. I'll definitely play through it again..

..but for now, I must move on to The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap for GBA.
