$15.00 Later

I went to see Return of the King tonight. I hate doing "review" kind of stuff for the most part, so I will just say this: go see it. It's not like "OMFG AMAZING" but it's a good end to a great trilogy. When the final "3 in 1" boxset is released I will purchase it.

There have got to be more amazing "old" books like this they can make movies from. I hear a rumor that Peter Jackson will also be doing "The Hobbit" sometime in the future. That can only be another good movie.

btw...Legolas is the shit. He's like Link on crack. I don't even want to say that...he's like someone playing Zelda with extremely mad skills.

The first one is of me "cooking" which is done through synthesis using crystals. Here I'm slicing some sardines with a wind crystal.

Today's Entry: r3mixed

I've put my Final Fantasy XI stats over to the right -- further emphasizing how addicting this game is. I'm also planning to include "Total playtime," but I haven't gotten there yet. Soon though...for now I need to get back to selling Goblin Helms and buying spells. :)

Quote of the Day

"Apple isn't perfect, they're just pretty good. Microsoft isn't evil, they're just not as good as they should be."

Nothing profound...it just sums up my feelings (even though someone else said it) quite well. But whatever...I am still..

Out! Call the cell! LOL!

"If I had a dime for every time I couldn't, for the life of me, come up with an away message, I would have noticably jangly pockets"

-Lippton, circa A.D. 2003

I am waiting with baited breath for AOL to announce "Personality Messages," "Thought Trails," or "Extended Expression" to replace the name "Away Message." Certainly, away messages are rarely the thing they were meant to be. I saw an away message like the one above (one detailing how hard it was to come up with a "good" away message) once, and meant to write about it; however, I forgot. I thank the alchemist for reminding me.

At some point in it's evolution, AIM transformed from a chat service to an online existence. If you're not available on AIM, you aren't around; if you are away, you might not be there, but you probably are, but are just busy, or are avoiding people, or maybe playing a game. (Comma misuse highly intended)

In addition to this change from #teenchat to a second home, AIM also brought with it the now common "Away Message." At one point, this was a static message that a user couldn't edit; you were just away. Then it evolved -- it was editable. I'm not sure how it started, because I do remember a time when it was editable and people still only put that they were "out" or "at the store," but somehow the away message turned into a stump for your thoughts. You could put something witty. You could express outrage over the paper due in 2 hours. You could even link to YOUR personal website -- wow!

And maybe I wouldn't be writing this if the story stopped there -- oh no, it goes on. Not only are away messages no longer just that, but you are pushed, no, compelled, NOT to use it for such. You *need* to put something funny or profound next to your name.

I look down my list of buddies right now and see 24 people away. Of that:
18 are not at all related to the location of the away person (or that they are away)
9 are "random" things (inside jokes, ends of conversations, etc)
1 is the "default away message"

Personally, I don't even bother setting myself away anymore. Maybe it's because I'm never away, but that's not true. I gave up trying to think of clever things to say. I applaud those who do, however, as everyone knows how much fun it is to look at away messages and profiles when you are profoundly bored.

Oh, and next time you see an away message like "There really is no dark side of the moon, as a matter of fact, it's all dark," they're really just on the couch watching T.V.

(I'm not spell/grammar checking this as I hate doing it...feel free to point out any and all errors to webmaster@rit.edu)
